How to Make Merchant Payments and Same-Network Transfers Using Switchn

Switchn simplifies payments by enabling direct merchant payments and transfers within the same mobile money network (Orange Money to Orange Money, or MTN MoMo to MTN MoMo).

A merchant payment refers to paying directly to a store, supermarket, or local business that accepts mobile money through a unique merchant code instead of a personal phone number.

Follow these clear steps:

Merchant Payments with Switchn:

1. Open the Switchn app and navigate to the Send tab.
2. Receiver phone number: Enter the merchant code provided by the merchant.
3. Amount: Enter the payment amount.
4. Sender phone number: Select your Orange Money or MTN MoMo account.
5. Switchn automatically detects a merchant payment, and the action button changes to Dial.
6. Verify details displayed, including the generated USSD code.
7. Tap Dial, and the Switchn app will directly execute the transaction via your device's USSD service.
8. Finalize your payment by entering your mobile money PIN on the pop-up screen.

Same-Network Money Transfers:

1. Open Switchn and select the Send tab.
2. Enter the recipient's Orange Money or MTN MoMo phone number.
3. Enter the amount you want to transfer.
4. Select your sender number (Orange or MTN, matching the receiver network).
5. The Switchn app identifies a same-network transaction and prepares the USSD code automatically.
6. Review details, including any applicable cash-out fee. You can choose to include this fee in your payment.
7. Tap Dial to perform the transaction directly using your phone’s USSD function.
8. Confirm by entering your mobile money PIN on the USSD prompt.

Important Features:

• Switchn automatically calculates cash-out fees, clearly displayed to you before confirmation.
• You have the option to include or exclude cash-out fees from your total payment amount.
• USSD codes for merchant and same-network transactions are automatically generated and dialed directly from your phone, without sending information to Switchn servers, ensuring quick and secure transactions.
